Taylorsville High School
Jana Varney – Bookkeeper

Jana Varney

Taylorsville High School had over 900 transactions on their WebStore during Fall registration. That's incredible! I talked with Jana to find out the secret to her success:

Orientation
They did online or mail-in registration only. This was a decision that all of the high school bookkeepers made for various reasons:

  • Many of their students and parents are out of town in the month of August so providing them with the ability to pay their student fees online turned out to be a big stress reliever for parents.
  • This option saved Taylorsville High School weeks of time:
    • 4-5 days of setup for orientation – including setup and training for volunteers.
    • 2 weeks to count all the cash that would have been exchanged during orientation.
    • 3 weeks to clean up campus after orientation!

Incentivizing Students
They restricted the purchase of the yearbook to students until they paid off their basic fee:

  • The ability to pay online and with a credit card increased the number of people paying their fees than in past years.
  • Allowed them to reclaim outstanding fines/fees from students who carried them from previous year.

Messaging
Many of the schools in the Granite school district used the 2 messaging strategies below during orientation this year and saw huge numbers in WebStore transactions in August.

  • They included the WebStore option in all paperwork and announcements that were sent home to parents.
  • They used the email tool in the WebStore Manager to email all of their past WebStore customers to remind them about paying online.

Jana's advice for other schools that may not be utilizing their WebStore to its fullest – “Just do it! It's a piece of cake!”

Ideal School Answering Machine Message
It's back to school time and the most important thing right now is that we all remember how to laugh! Listen to this! In my opinion, this is what every school needs to have on their answering machine. This is billed as “Actual message on a school answering machine in Australia” – but I think it's appropriate for anywhere. See if you agree. (click here to continue reading...)
Do you use it? That long, 60-character Purpose field in SchoolBooks
We've always prided ourselves for being responsive to our users and adding requested enhancements on a fairly regular basis. In an attempt to keep our software up-to-date and fresh, we usually add new features, new sorting options, new reports, or something fun (you name it) about once a year. (click here to continue reading...)
New Update Available for SchoolBooks WEB - Version 2.0
If you are a SchoolBooks WEB Customer, you should have received an email earlier today with the release notes. The list of release notes is VERY long because there were so many bug fixes and enhancements included. I would recommend you get it as soon as possible (click here to continue reading...)
